Uncle Du 22 Posted November 5, 2009 (edited) Holy freakin' crap, the 'Canes SUCK!! 10 straight losses?! And no one come in here talking about the Yankees "buying" the Series, pleeeeeease! They've been doing this for years, and it's not an issue when they get eliminated from the playoffs, but it is now? Come on, don't stoop that low. They won. They have the better team. It's over. Mara 29 Posted November 5, 2009 The pain, the PAIN! Honestly, I'm glad the Yankees finished the series, so I don't have to wait another week for a new episode of 'Fringe.' :D
James the Defender 7 Posted November 5, 2009 And no one come in here talking about the Yankees "buying" the Series, pleeeeeease! They've been doing this for years, and it's not an issue when they get eliminated from the playoffs, but it is now? Come on, don't stoop that low. They won. They have the better team. It's over. They have the better pitching staff, not the better team. They won, but you don't think that payroll had anything to do with it? It's a shame they buy the "best" team in baseball when small markets like Milwaukee have to give up all their great prospects just to have a wild card contending team. They could only keep Sabathia for one season because of their small market. MLB needs to follow suit of all other major sports in the U.S. I'm proposing something monumental and earth-shaking to baseball... ... ... ... The MLB needs a salary cap. Uncle Du 22 Posted November 5, 2009 You can't sit there and blame the team, it's the system, if you want to make that argument. The way the Yankees organization is able to operate is due in no small part to the smart business decisions made over the years for that club. But once again, it's never an issue until they WIN. They haven't won a title in 9 years, and over the course of those years, they have always operated the same way. They lure big names to the club because they have the bankroll for it. And you can talk all you want about smaller markets not having a chance, but that's not true either. The Rockies and the Marlins are very recent expansions, and they've both been all the way (the Rockies losing of course). One could argue that the Rockies market in no way was able to compete with Boston's. The Rockies pitching was horrendous in comparison. The debate will never go away. And really, the only thing a salary cap is going to do is pay people less money. Big names are STILL going to go to the Yankees because they have a history of being good. The name itself will draw players there. The same is true for say, the Red Wings. Before the cap was instituted, they were one of the teams shelling out the most money for players. When the cap was instituted, yes, it gave smaller market clubs the chance to get good players, but the fact remained that the whole of the Wings organization was not affected because players WANTED to stay there, and took pay cuts. To this day, they are still one of the few teams that made it through that transition fairly unscathed. As for them not having the better team, come on man. Howard struck out 13 TIMES. The Phillys batting was just not there, save for maybe one game. There was no clutch performance from your position players. And Cole Hamels, wow, what a little bitch. He kinda reminds me of Charlie Sheens character from Major League 2. They win a pennant, and all of a sudden he's more concerned with what time of day he's going to have to pitch, rather than the pitching itself. Honestly, I think the stigma of defending the title is what did them in. I think if they hadn't won last year, your team would have had what it took to beat the Yankees. James the Defender 7 Posted November 6, 2009 All good points. Especially about Hamels. He's a baby, isn't he? I'm not saying anything about the players. The players are who they are. If someone offered you 30,000 to work here, but someone else is offering 50,000 to do the same work, of course you're going to work for the 50k. Oh, but to me, the Yankee's payroll has always been a concern, even when the lose. 27 championships is head and shoulders above the closest competition. Noted: quite a few of those came when NY was establishing itself as a powerhouse (Dimaggio, Bera, Ruth, etc...) Quite duly noted: if they had played and won for, say, the Athletics, then mayhaps the A's would be the Evil Empire. Who knows? I hate the fact that since the Yankees had that stretch they went out and got Sabathia, Burnett, Teixiera, etc to build that championship team. I just think the Phillies slumped. The long layoff hurt them, I think. There's a lot they should have done differently. The Phillies are the better team and they are setup for long-range dominance. Perhaps it was the stigma, maybe it was the pressure. This is the team whom last year came back in a game down 11-1 to win the game. They can hit, they can pitch, but it all has to click. They didn't get to the Series because they can't play. They're not the Rays (All due respect to the Rays. B.J. Upton is a great player) They needed a closer. If they had won 3/4 of the games that Lidge blew they'd have had a 100 in season. But, ifs are ifs, lol Phils-Yanks will be consuming the World Series for many years and we will always have this debate. However, it's always still fun to root for anyone against the Yankees. Ya gotta love to hate 'em! I know I do! :p
Uncle Du 22 Posted November 6, 2009 LOL, all very true. And yea, I think we're going to be seeing this match-up much more in the coming 5 years. And I'm not really a Yankees fan. I just like debating sports. It's hard to debate anything for my team any way, the Rockies are EPIC slumpers. To get all the way to the Series, then get swept? Come on. And on the tail of such a great season, well, it was pathetic to say the least. It's more fun for everyone when there's actually competition in the World Series. :p
Mara 29 Posted November 6, 2009 Oh, well, time to focus on hockey now. (And cry in the corner).
Uncle Du 22 Posted November 7, 2009 LMAO, I'd be cryin' too if my team had dropped 11 straight. Damn, the Avs finished dead last in the West last year, and we didn't even lose that many in a row. :D
Princess 35 Posted November 8, 2009 Wings lost another forward to injuries last night. Jason Williams snapped his fibula. Pretty soon most of Grand Rapids will be playing in Detroit

Uncle Du 22 Posted November 9, 2009 (edited) Oh. My. God. Is this where we see Green Bay meltdown?! Lost to TAMPA BAY?! Glad I'm not doing a pick em league, cause I definitely would not have picked that. Edited November 9, 2009 by Du

I wish the Lions could play well in more than the 1st quarter. I mean, that was awesome, how it started. But then, it went downhill. Mara 29 Posted November 10, 2009 'Canes signed Manny Legace to a one-year contract. Maybe we'll get a win or two?
Uncle Du 22 Posted November 11, 2009 Yep, you can definitely tell that your team is in dire straits when they sign a past-his-prime goalie like Legace. :p
Mara 29 Posted November 11, 2009 Yep, you can definitely tell that your team is in dire straits when they sign a past-his-prime goalie like Legace. There was probably no one else they could afford. They're only payin' him $500,000 (or $105,000 if he goes back to the minors).
Uncle Du 22 Posted November 12, 2009 (edited) Holy crap. That's friggin cheap. And I just noticed that you've dropped 13 straight now. I'm sorry. I actually really am. Nothing is more painful that to see your team do THAT bad. Edited November 12, 2009 by Du
Mara 29 Posted November 12, 2009 (edited) Yeah, I know. At least we scored two goals in that game, ahaha. Meh. I'm beginning to believe the ESPN guys on that video I watched. Talking about how much they suck, and that it won't get better. And they can't fire their coach 'cause they're still paying for Peter who they fired last season. It totally makes sense now to fire the coach that got them a cup, and rehire the coach that lost them the cup. Yeah. I think this is the link. It's about the first half of the video. Even Barry says they suck. And in baseball news.. there are rumors that my Tigers might be letting go of Granderson (to the Yankees of all teams)... which I think would be a really bad decision. I don't care if his salary is one of the highest. KEEP HIM. Edited November 12, 2009 by Mara

Mara 29 Posted November 16, 2009 (edited) Wow, Carolina actually beat Montreal today It was Minnesota, actually. No, it sucks for me to say this but Carolina beat the Wild this afternoon 5-4 in a shootout. Why does that suck? We just snapped our 14-game losing streak, wahoo!! If it's any consolation, we're still the worst in the league with only 10 points. Thanks to an OT loss on Friday, whoo! Though, it begs to see whether this is a change or not, depending on how the next couple weeks go. Hopefully we made a turn for the better. Holy crap, the Broncos lost to the crappy ass Redskins. I have a feeling this season is going to end up pissing me off. Even the Lions could beat Washington. ;) Edited November 16, 2009 by Mara
