Princess 35 Posted January 22, 2010 There are also times when the coach (or GM) picks the Captain and the team picks the assistants.

Princess 35 Posted January 22, 2010 Gah! Wings have got to stop doing this to me. At least they won in the shoot out this time (albeit in the 8th round)
Master Hayes 1 Posted January 22, 2010 Du, not all teams have the type of talented young players that the Av's have. My opinion is slightly one sided as I don't get to see very many Canes games and I see the Av's play the Wild 8 times. I guess I'm just a little more old school when it comes to handing out the "C". Guys should have to proove they are ready to wear it.
Uncle Du 22 Posted January 22, 2010 Gah! Wings have got to stop doing this to me. At least they won in the shoot out this time (albeit in the 8th round) They seem to keep doing that though, giving the other team a point in OT. I can't believe how much worse you guys are this year. I know you've had a ton of injuries, but still. You DO realize that this is just really sweet for me right? I'm sure it is for Hayes also, being that he's another Western Conf. type o guy. I guess I'm just a little more old school when it comes to handing out the "C". Guys should have to proove they are ready to wear it. Oh, I'm totally with you there dude. I really took issue when they gave Crosby the C, especially when they have a guy like Gonchar on the blue line. How much leadership did he really bring to the table when he was 19? It wasn't his leadership that won the Cup (we won't get into that). And it's Toews wearin' the C for Chicago, I don't think that's right. Out of the three youngest Captains in the NHL, I think OV is the best one. And as for who's wearin' it for my boys, I look at Footer and I think, "He didn't really do a great job as a Captain when he was in Columbus." Then he comes back to Colorado, Joey retires and he gets it? Come on. Paul is 25 years old, and he has definitely proven that he IS the franchise guy that we're going to have. Learning under Sakic and knowing that his Dad played for Quebec, that dude is more than likely NEVER leaving. He's the type of person that should be wearing the C. But I think I've beat this enough. I watched the Caps/pens game last night, man, I love watchin' Ovechkin play. The dude is unbelievable. And watching that game made me really happy that Colorado bought out Theodore and got rid of him. Lemme see if I can find video of the first goal that he let in... Here it is, it starts at about the 1 minute mark. He just gave up! Friggin' laziness.

I know you've had a ton of injuries, but still. You DO realize that this is just really sweet for me right? We're hurting hard. We need to beat LA next week without going into OT. Just being one point out of playoff position is frustrating. We're supposed to get Kronwall back next week but who we really need back is Franzen. We had so many goal-scorers jump ship in the off-season, luckily Bertuzzi and a few others have stepped up in the goal-scoring department.
Uncle Du 22 Posted January 22, 2010 You guys are pretty much sitting where we were last year. Our best scorers were injured, and the team traded away some people that I didn't think we should have. But the Wings are always a solid franchise, you guys won't be down and out for very long.
Princess 35 Posted January 22, 2010 That and the people we lost were mainly free agents. I think that we're still going to make the playoffs though.
Mara 29 Posted January 22, 2010 (edited) Well the idea is to stir things up. Make some changes. You guys can't do any worse. And Staal is gonna be there for a while. I think it's a good idea. Probably because I think we should have made Stastny our Captain instead of Adam Foote. Having vets on your team is good, but you gotta put the young talent in the leadership spots. Yeah, but in the middle of a season, changing captains? I do think Eric's the future, but I also don't think it's a good omen for Rod. :/ I just hope he finishes out the rest of the season before retiring (if that's the plan behind all this). Plus, I'm not sure how much will actually change besides the letters, with Rod going from C to A, and Eric going from A to C. Is it just a publicity thing? Look, we have a young captain and all that jazz? Pfft. Keep Rod there to finish out the season. THEN make the change. Anyway, whatever happened to the team voting on the captain before each season? You should be worried. Your team is shopping Ray Whitney so they can go with a youth movement. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I like Ray. This happens with all teams at some point. And why should he be worried? He's had a good career, he's older. He can retire. You can't get hung up on your veterans. You gotta see the future. Sakic said that he wouldn't be against giving up his C last year, before he decided to retire, but the team wanted him to keep it. I was wicked sad to see him go, but I was happy with the young talent we have, and where we're going......and then we made that dinosaur Adam Foote our Captain, and he's ewokin injured, AGAIN. Gimme a break. They better give it to Stastny next year. I would just rather he retired still wearing the C. I mean, why couldn't they wait to give it to Eric next season? Du, not all teams have the type of talented young players that the Av's have. My opinion is slightly one sided as I don't get to see very many Canes games and I see the Av's play the Wild 8 times. I don't like it. And I also agree with the Crosby thing. I don't care how awesome he was supposed to be. Who gives the C to a first-round draft pick? Oh, well, Mr New Captain had a hat trick last night. So meh. Win #15, oh, yeah! Edited January 22, 2010 by Mara
Uncle Du 22 Posted January 22, 2010 That and the people we lost were mainly free agents. I think that we're still going to make the playoffs though. I dunno, there's a lot of teams in the West that are going to make that difficult for your team, especially with your injuries as of late. We won't really be able to tell until after the Olympics though. With my luck, the Avs will go on their worst losing streak in history after the break/ :p
Princess 35 Posted January 22, 2010 Prolly. The problem is, we get two people back from injuries and then Tomas Holmstrom breaks his foot in practice. That's just how our season goes. I also agree, no one should wear the C their rookie year.
Princess 35 Posted January 23, 2010 I really wish that FSD would show college hockey games besides whomever is playing Michigan and Michigan State.
Uncle Du 22 Posted January 23, 2010 Yeaaaaaa, buddy, Avs have won 5 straight! Top of the NW!! (Sorry about your boys Hayes) ;)
Master Hayes 1 Posted January 23, 2010 (edited) Well Du, until the Wild stop the Jeckle and Hyde bit we aren't going to make the playoffs. So today is Hockey Day in Minnesota. FS-North has been airing hockey since 9AM. The day is capped of with the Wild-Blue Jackets game this evening. Yours truly will be there, however I'm not looking forward to going. Princess 35 Posted January 23, 2010 (edited) Wings are playing LA tonight. If they beat LA tonight, they'll move up into playoff position. Take that back, they're in playoff position, in 8th place. If they beat LA and all goes according to plan tonight they can be up near 4th place in one night. Edited January 24, 2010 by Princess

Princess 35 Posted January 24, 2010 Well, we didn't win. That was ugly. I thought I heard them say during the pregame though about something like what I said because the West is so close right now.
Uncle Du 22 Posted January 24, 2010 Yea, we're sittin' in third in the West for now, but Vancouver is tied with us in points. Only reason we're still ahead is 'cause we've played one less game.
Ayingel 24 Posted January 25, 2010 i swear those refs were getting paid off tonight...some really ewoking stupid calls.
Uncle Du 22 Posted January 25, 2010 They should have been calling those late hits on Favre early on. It definitely impacted his play. It's typical though. NO will basically play the game, all the while breaking the rules, knowing full well that the refs won't call it every time. It's bullsith. I think the Colts are gonna wreck the saints. Vikes D had a bad game last night, but I think they woulda had a better chance at beating Indy.
Ayingel 24 Posted January 25, 2010 i hope the colts kick their ass as a sort of pay-back >.>
Mara 29 Posted January 25, 2010 (edited) Colts for the Super Bowl!! Oh, and that Pens/Flyers game was a disappointment. But my 'Canes beat Boston, whoo! Giving Ward the lead on the all-time win list for the 'Canes (131 wins). Plus, we're not the worst in the league anymore, with one more point than Edmonton!! :D Edited January 25, 2010 by Mara
James the Defender 7 Posted January 26, 2010 (edited) i swear those refs were getting paid off tonight...some really ewoking stupid calls. That's a recurring thing in these playoff games...like GB and Arizona...no-calls prevailed. But, Minnesota lost, so I'm happy. I didn't want to see Favre get hurt the way he did, but I wanted to see the Vikings get hurt the way they did. Line says Colts(-6). I think they'll win, 45-30. I doubt the Saints will have it to beat them. I'll be rooting for the Saints, though. Oh, and my boy Aaron Rodgers will be starting for the NFC Squad in the Pro Bowl by virtue of Brees going to the Bowl and Favre backing out for injuries. Uncle Du 22 Posted January 27, 2010 I really don't want the Saints to win, due mostly in part by the st00pid ass fans and their st00pid "who dey" BS. That sith is SOOOOOO annoying!!! Go AFC!!!
