Master Hayes 1 Posted June 11, 2010 Congrats to the Blackhawks on winning the Stanley Cup! The hype behind Strasburg is he's only 21 and has 4, yeah I said 4, major league pitches. He's no a 2 pitch pony like so many other over-hyped pitchers. I will agree that we should wait and see if he can do that after facing teams more than once, and over a nice 15 year career. Princess 35 Posted June 11, 2010 Congrats to the Hawks, though I would have liked to have seen a game 7, just because winning makes the season end. IMO though, they just outplayed Philly.
James the Defender 7 Posted June 11, 2010 Not until the last two games. The Flyers were the better team in Games 1-4. The score may not have reflected it, but sometimes the better team just doesn't win. That's why in a 7 game series, you generally always see the better team win. The Flyers have goalie issues, and they're older. They were tired by Games five and six.
Mara 29 Posted June 11, 2010 Speaking of the Pirates...can you believe all the hype Stephen Strasburg is getting because he struck out 15 Pirates? Granted, it's his MLB debut, but any pitcher who can throw a fastball @ 98+ MPH and can have a hard diving off-speed pitch is going to strike out 15 Pirates... It's not a feat... Now, if he happens to do that against a good AL team, or the Cardinals, or another patient NL team, like the Phillies were in early to mid May, then I'll be impressed and I will come here and publicly apologize...but as of now, I am not impressed...He debuted against one of the bottom-feeders of the majors. Smart move, though, by the Nats. They've handled him expertly. Bravo to them. My vote is still out on Strasburg. Give him another season or two...guys are going to start catching up to his stuff. Every time a batter and a pitcher meet, the pitcher has less and less advantage in each meeting. So, I'm curious to see him perform against a great team of great hitters. I thought it was 14, not 15. :p
James the Defender 7 Posted June 11, 2010 I was listening to the Phillies game at the time and that's what they said, :p
Andy 60 Posted June 13, 2010 You guys pay attention to the FIFA World Cup? Nah, me neither. A draw today between England and USA. How boring; and you guys were lucky. :p
Uncle Du 22 Posted June 13, 2010 I wish I could watch more of the games. We were able to watch the second half because we decided to take a really long lunch no matter if we got in trouble. And yea, we are lucky it ended in a draw. Our keeper was on FIRE!! But still, if you guys only took us to a draw, you might want to be a little more wary. ;)
Mara 29 Posted June 14, 2010 (edited) Didn't get a chance to watch the game, but caught some highlights of it. And, whoo, the Tigers finally swept a series for the first time since, I dunno, April maybe. (Even though it was the Pirates, but still...) We get the Nats next, and since Strasburg just pitched, we're gonna miss him, whoo! Edited June 14, 2010 by Mara
James the Defender 7 Posted June 15, 2010 Phils actually took one of three from Boston!
Mara 29 Posted June 15, 2010 (edited) Phils actually took one of three from Boston! Didn't you say earlier, when I mentioned the Tigers took two of three from Boston, that "everyone" was taking two of three from Boston? *goes to find* Aha! Everyone's been taking two of three from the Red Sox. Edited June 15, 2010 by Mara

Mara 29 Posted June 16, 2010 :D Tigers get a win over the Nats, whoo! I can't believe we have a 4-game win streak. It's like, wow. Due in part from Mags coming off resting his sore oblique for a week and going 4 for 5, hahaha.

Didn't you say earlier, when I mentioned the Tigers took two of three from Boston, that "everyone" was taking two of three from Boston? *goes to find* Aha! Everyone's been taking two of three from the Red Sox. That was the 18th of May, when everyone wastaking two of three from Boston and Philly was taking two of three from everyone (including a four game sweep of the Cards), but since then things have changed. We've entered the dark times for the Phils...if I believed in such things, I'd say Harry Kalas was turning over in his grave!
Uncle Du 22 Posted June 17, 2010 <---Can't wait till football starts again, and there's less of this baseball talk. :p
Mara 29 Posted June 17, 2010 Pfft. Baseball is a lot more exciting. Tigers sweep the Nats, whee! 6-game win streak. :D
James the Defender 7 Posted June 18, 2010 (edited) w00t! Keep sweeping everyone in the NL East except the Phils, please! Phils took two of three from the Yanks! 6-3 and 7-1. Hopefully, we're back on track. If we are...watch out! The Phillies are also talking about bringing back Cliff Lee, Pedro Martinez, or nabbing Roy Ozwalt. If we were the Yankees we'd take all three I'm hoping for Lee, myself. Rotation: Halladay, Lee, Hamels, Happ, Moyer... Wow... Then have Kendrick and Blanton out of the 'pen... Woah... Scary...for 29 other teams in the majors! Edited June 18, 2010 by James the Defender
Mara 29 Posted June 18, 2010 Nah, I think our last NL series are the D'backs (this weekend, versus two of our old pitchers, gasp!), then the Mets and later, the Braves. No Phillies. I just hope we keep winning, but the Twinkies start losing more, so we can actually gain some ground on 'em and get first place back.

We smacked the Twins last night, and we'll see what we can do today and tomorrow. I hope we can sweep them for you, and I hope you can do the same to Mets and Braves. Well, there goes the sweep...8-3 lead and blow the whole thing?!?!?!?!?!?! R-I-D-I-C-U-L-O-U-S!!! Bullpen was just awful. I hope Halladay can pitch another perfect game tomorrow and the Phillies come out angry, hungry, and loose... I'm as heck, and I'm not going to take it anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!! *drinks his wine* Edited June 20, 2010 by James the Defender
Mara 29 Posted June 21, 2010 Tsk, tsk, Phillies. Well, we broke our 7-game win steak, but still won the series against the D'backs, so it's not too bad. And, yeah, hopefully we can take some games from the Mets and Braves, but from what I've been hearing, that'll be easier to say than do. :p
Mara 29 Posted June 24, 2010 (edited) Argh, I hate the Mets. Here's to hoping we don't get swept tonight. :p Edited June 24, 2010 by Mara
James the Defender 7 Posted June 24, 2010 Argh, I hate the Mets. I hate the Mets, too! We swept the Indians! I know it's the Tribe, but it feels sooooooooooooooooooooo good to sweep a series again! :D
Mara 29 Posted June 25, 2010 At least we won the game last night, so we avoided the sweep. And the Twinkies got swept by the Brewers, so we gained a bit of ground on 'em, whoo! Now the Braves... yay. I hear their pitching has been really good lately.
James the Defender 7 Posted June 26, 2010 Uh, yeah...Welcome to our world Went to the Phillies game last night. Saw Halladay pitch! The Phillies won 9-0. w00t! :D
Mara 29 Posted June 28, 2010 Nice. I'm going to a game in August, vs. the White Sox. Got one win against Atlanta this weekend but it should have been 2 (or at least a chance for 2), but we had another ump boff a call. This time it was a striker vs. ball, which he called a strike and was so obviously a ball, that would have tied the game, with the bases still loaded in the 9th. Argh.
