Princess 35 Posted March 2, 2010 and personally he's one of my favorite players to watch because you never know what's going to happen when he's on the ice. But Pavel Datsyuk is the same way. They've coined the word Datsyukian when talking about some of his moves. You don't see him getting the same level of marketing as Crosby, do you? That's where the problem is, this upstart kid getting all the attention, and really, being the number one draft pick isn't the best thing because you're going to the team that was the worst in the league last year. On a different note, Go Wings! Beat those stinkin' Avs!
Drake 53 Posted March 2, 2010 But, in the overall scheme of things, USA totally rocks. I mean, we won the medal count. We broke the record for most medals by a county in a Winter games. We finally won medals in nordic for the first time ever. We won men's bobsled for the first time in like 60 years. The only downside were our curling teams. These games were quite monumental for Canada as well. With Alexandre Bilodeau's win in freestyle skiing, we got our first gold medal for an Olympics held on Canadian soil. After that, we racked up the golds right to the end. That last game gave us 14 golds; breaking the record for any Winter Olympics.
Uncle Du 22 Posted March 2, 2010 I was bummed that USA lost yesterday, but I had to chuckle at the fact Crosby scored the game winner. I knew right away that was going to get under the skin of you guys here that seem to just loathe the guy. I mean I'd get it if he played against your team 6 times a year or if there was some playoff history to fuel it, but this seem to be out right hate. Now I've seem him do some chippy things in games, and I've watched him whine to refs and that gets annoying, and I know that he won't take the same heat for things that other players do, but that's the NHL's fault. That bettman guy has the NHL market Crosby. I mean he is one of the best players in the league, and personally he's one of my favorite players to watch because you never know what's going to happen when he's on the ice. Also, I've never seen, read, or heard the guy be anything but humble when interviewed. He has a great respect for the game of hockey, and I've never seen him act like he's the best and only thing the NHL has to offer. Now I'm sure I'm going to take some crap for posting this, but I just wanted to say my peace. I don't expect anyone to offer up proof to anything, and I'm not trying to change your feeling about Crosby either. I LOVE reading what you guys post when you rip him. It brightens my day. Like I said, I just had to say my peace because after all I did name my dog Crosby. I have to say, that I didn't dislike him at all until I friggin moved to Pittsburgh. What the NHL has done to him is make him a cash cow, which honestly, isn't bringing that much more money or ratings our way. What it has done is put loads of people on the streets in crosby gear that NEVER WATCHED HOCKEY TILL HE WON THEM A CUP. You can't even have a nice, friendly, hockey debate with those people, because they don't actually CARE about the game itself, they care about ONE dude. That in 5-10 years will be gone, and they won't be able to sell out the new Consol Energy Center that's being built across from the igloo. Do I respect that he's a great player? Hell yes I do, I always try to draft him for fantasy, lol. But, his name is the one on all those rip-off jerseys, so he's the one I hate on. and personally he's one of my favorite players to watch because you never know what's going to happen when he's on the ice. On a different note, Go Wings! Beat those stinkin' Avs! You do realize that all the moves that Datsyuk has he got from Forsberg when he played for Colorado. I definitely think these were some of the best Olympics that I can remember. I would say that North America put a FRIGGIN HURTIN on the rest of World!!!! Which is why I can never understand somebody being happy they were the first pick in sports with draft systems like that. Maybe, though, they're happy 'cause they know they're getting a CRAPLOAD of money, ala Matthew Stafford. He was signed by the Lions before the draft even began. Uncle Du 22 Posted March 2, 2010 Is there a rookie cap in the NFL? 'Casue I know there's one in the NHL. So even if you are the number one pick, you're still not gonna be making any where near as much money as the other good players out there. Though it seems in hockey, the higher draft picks tend to pan out better than the high picks in the NFL. Where you at Leinhart? Hahahaha! :p
Mara 29 Posted March 2, 2010 The NFL should have a cap for rookies. Those young kids shouldn't have all that money right away, I don't care how skilled they are. It just gets them in trouble. And Chad Ocho Cinco is gonna be on Dancing with the Stars. Ugh. :p

It just gets them in trouble. Definitely. But each higher drafted kid holds out till the team pays em more than the next guy. It's bullsith. Like what's his face that got drafted for the Niners and didn't play half the season. All for money. Gimme a break dude, you're not even 23 years old, you're not that awesome. Miller gets louder cheer than Crosby in Pittsburgh Wooo hoooo!!! And really? They had to show that goal more than once?? What the hell for?! This is why they all get "for show" degrees, because they know they'll never have to use their education. Which is super sad. And... my 'Canes lost some players at the deadline, BUT at least not Ray, yay! I'll miss Walker and Corvo, though. :(
Ender 8 Posted March 4, 2010 Just finished watching the Blackhawks-Islanders game I missed last night. Blake Comeau was awesome.
Uncle Du 22 Posted March 4, 2010 Yea, where the hell did that dude come from?? Before that game he had what, nine goals all season? Then he gets a trick. Crazy. And the Avs traded away Wojtek Wolski to the damned Coyotes. Go figure, the only autographed pic I have of an Av was of him. *sigh*
Uncle Du 22 Posted March 5, 2010 (edited) So the guy we traded to Phoenix....beat us... For the life of me, WHAT was our front office thinking?! Wolski is CLUTCH! He just proved it!! My God man... Also, full trade deadline details here... Edited March 5, 2010 by Uncle Du
Mara 29 Posted March 5, 2010 (edited) Didn't you give up Aaron Ward too? Yeah, before the Olympics. But we had just gotten him back anyway. He's been back and forth with us. He'll probably be back later. Most of 'em return. So the guy we traded to Phoenix....beat us... For the life of me, WHAT was our front office thinking?! Wolski is CLUTCH! He just proved it!! My God man... Also, full trade deadline details here... Or check out this story from ESPN. They actually want us to stop WINNING SO MUCH so we can have our number 1 pick. Speaking of, we picked up another win last night. 7 in a row, baby! Edited March 5, 2010 by Mara
Uncle Du 22 Posted March 6, 2010 That's why the whole draft system sucks. I think that for teams that miss the playoffs, the first picks go in a lottery, that way it will prevent teams from TRYING to come in dead last for a pick. Then, for the teams that made the playoffs, they all take place in a separate lottery to determine the second half of the draft order. I think that would be the most fair way. Because then the Stanley Cup champs still wouldn't have the possibility of getting a #1 pick in a random lottery.
Princess 35 Posted March 8, 2010 Excuse me for a moment while I rant. How many of you watched the NBC Game of the Week today? My Wings vs the 'Hawks. First off, the Gordie (my version of the Oscar for hockey) for best acting goes to the 'Hawks for all the diving that they did today. It was so obvious that Franzen was making fun of them on the bench, miming a person diving into water. Secondly, to the officials. If you're not going to call a penalty on one team, you CANNOT put the other team in the penalty box 30 seconds later for the same thing. Thirdly, hitting etiquette. If someone is going down already, you do not continue to hit them, you put on the breaks. I don't know who hit Bertuzzi to take him out of the game, but Bertuzzi was already going down when he got hit and it looked knee on knee. That hurts people. Uncle Du 22 Posted March 8, 2010 You can't possibly sit there and bitch about a hit that got put on Bertuzzi, he's more often than not been the bad guy in his career, especially when it comes to questionable hits. :p
Princess 35 Posted March 8, 2010 The league needs to clamp down on those questionable hits and not call the crappy lil hooking and holding stuff where you barely put a stick or an arm on someone
Uncle Du 22 Posted March 8, 2010 Hitting is a part of hockey, and with any physical sport, things like that are always going to happen. Restrict it too much, and especially with hockey, we're going to lose even more of the game that we love.

I'm going to take that one step further, Bertuzzt should never have been alouded to return to the NHL after the incident with that Moore guy from the Avs. That guy hasn't been able to play hockey again, and neither should Bertuzzi. I did however see when Frazen mimed the diving when he went to the bench, that was pretty funny.
