Roethlisberger 0 Posted May 3, 2004 Three Kings: If this film has ever been more topical, it's now. It's about four soldiers (George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg, Ice Cube, Spike Jonze) fighting Gulf War I and they stumble upon some money. It is almost a satire, and not since MASH has wartime comedy been this good! It may seem unsettling to some seeing the first Gulf War in Iraq as a satire, but excellent performances, especially by Jonze as a redneck who dropped out of High School, and Clooney, as a ranking officer who leads the pack. The script and direction are absolutely first rate. The script is amazing (it was written by David O. Russell). My favorite sequence: A guy gets shot and they show the wound in gruesome detail. Here's the catch: Director O. Russell shows the wound from the bullet's point of view! Grade: A+
GI_Admiral 2 Posted May 3, 2004 Hey they did that in Kill Bill...though it was Anime...
Alexander 0 Posted May 3, 2004 And we all know how anatomically correct anime is. :p
Roethlisberger 0 Posted May 4, 2004 Magnolia: Paul Thomas Anderson owns you!!!! Every single actor in this huge cast was so good! What a script! This is Tom Cruise's best film. I may talk about this and Boogie Nights more later. Grade: A+
Alexander 0 Posted May 4, 2004 Yeah, I like all of PTA's films as well (Magnolia the most). I find Wahlberg's fake penis funny in Boogie Nights. :p
Roethlisberger 0 Posted May 4, 2004 I like Boogie Nights the most. I think the performances are better in Boogie Nights. I like Punch Drunk Love because it showed us that Adam Sandler can actually act.
Alexander 0 Posted May 4, 2004 I've seen Punch-Drunk Love five times now and I still don't know if I like it or not. It was beautifully shot though.
Roethlisberger 0 Posted May 16, 2004 (edited) Troy: As a film, it was ok. Peter O'Toole and Eric Bana were great. Pitt wasn't bad. Brian Cox was really good and I wish he had more to do. Sean Bean was good, and Gleeson was ok. Julie Christie was great, but her performance was one scene. Her scene, however, is the best scene. The tech stuff and direction was pretty good. Now to the stuff I didn't like. I absolutely hated every single scene between Helen and Paris. Orlando Bloom annoyed the Hell out of me. This is not the Illiad. There were far too many differences in the script from the Illiad to be inspired by the Illiad. Too many chief characters die in this, but don't in the Illiad. Sure, Menelaus was a lot older than Helen, but this isn't Douglas/Zeta Jones here. They portrayed Menelaus as an asshole, which he wasn't. I don't even remember Briseis being in the Illiad. The Husband/wife scenes were badly written. And the score sucked. As a movie, it was ok. As an adaptation of the Illaid, it was terrible. Overall, it was ok. Peter O'Toole, Brian Cox, Sean, Eric Bana and Julie Christie saved the movie from becoming absolute crap. Pitt worked well enough. Good technicals, but bad script. Overall, the good stuff and the bad even out, and we get an entertaining film, but not The Illiad. Am I up for parodying it? Of course I am! Grade: C++ (Right in between C+ and B-) Edited May 16, 2004 by Sidewinder
chozen 1 Posted May 16, 2004 Van Helsing. Ya call that a story line? Doritos crisps are less cheesy than that film. It could have been so much better if they had a good story line.. argh. C -----0----
Ender 8 Posted May 16, 2004 I agree with that, Fett... Eric Bana basically carried the whole damn thing. Paris was a total vag... I really, really hated him.
Roethlisberger 0 Posted May 24, 2004 Shrek 2: I liked the film a lot, but I LOVED the first (#5 of 2001). My favorite new characters were Puss In Boots (of course) and Prince Charming. Rupert Everett was just so funny as Charming's voice! (If someone would find me a pic that I could put in my sig, that would be great). Puss and Charming steal the show. Murphy is great, as last time. I felt John Cleese was underused, and that we didn't see enough Fiona. My favorite touch: Either Pinocchio (everything he did in this movie was drop dead hilarious), or the Cops spoof, Knights. My favorite line: I can't remember it exactly, but it was something like this: "My son didn't go through all those obstacles just to find some gender-confused wolf in her bed!" Puss in Boots: A+ Prince Charming: A+ The Fairy Tale Creatures: A+ Overall grade: B+
Radioactive Isotope 29 Posted May 25, 2004 i also saw Shrek 2, and like Fett said, the cat stole the show. absolutely adorable. Antonio Banderas was the perfect choice. the only thing that bugged me about this one was there was significantly less adult humor than in the first one. it's still got some great gags and hilarious moments, but it was a bit more "kid friendly" than the original. Overall Grade: A-
Roethlisberger 0 Posted May 25, 2004 I love the Cops parody. That was hilarious!
Radioactive Isotope 29 Posted May 25, 2004 hehe. yeah, that was funny. but everything coming from the cat was utterly hilarious.
Ender 8 Posted May 25, 2004 Shrek 2 was great... I was worried for a while. Usually sequels like this really blow.
CorSec 5 Posted May 25, 2004 Saw Troy. Good. Not Great. It's strange for me to admit this of an epic action movie, but I felt it was drawn-out. I didn't find much interesting by the end. Saw the Last Samurai. Great movie. Cool stuffs. Saw Kill Bill vol 1. Fake blood to the extreme. Also really good. Who needs plot with that much blood? No one. :D
Roethlisberger 0 Posted June 3, 2004 Reservoir Dogs: Reservoir Dogs is an ingenious film and it is Quentin Tarantino's second best (after Pulp Fiction). The entire cast is great (the standouts are Michael Madsen, as the psychopath Mr. Blonde, Harvey Keitel, as Mr. White, Steve Buscemi, Mr. Pink, and Lawrence Tierney, as big boss Joe). The film is told out of narrative and it is outstanding for a directorial/screenwriting debut. It's outstanding by any standard. There are a number of great scenes, like the one when Mr. Blonde tortures a cop in synchronization with the song "Stuck in the Middle With You," the scene when Mr. Pink shows that he is not happy with his codename, and the final scene, which is a great scene. Reservoir Dogs is one of the top 20 films of the 90s. Grade: A+
CorSec 5 Posted June 4, 2004 Have it on DVD...started watching it at 11:00pm one night...couldn't finish. Haven't touched since. Still need to see it.

Ender 8 Posted June 6, 2004 Full Spectrum Warrior: Wow. This game just bit off Halo's foot and is neck and neck with it. Never before has a game been this innovative, this original. The whole concept of squad tactics has never been so well done, even by Rainbow Six. The graphics are gorgeous, and the added backstories to each of your soldiers add a nice touch to the game. Oh, here's one for CorSec: One of your soldiers' profile describes him as a 'leet-speaking gamer with nine tattoos of different anime charachters.' Overall: A++

Roethlisberger 0 Posted June 6, 2004 Oh yeah, just for future reference, limit your 'A's just to one plus. Saw the Last Samurai. Great movie. Cool stuffs. Nah, it wasn't great, it was a B-movie.
Andy 60 Posted June 6, 2004 Movie: The Day After Tomorrow Coming from the same place as Independance Day, it is similar yet massively different. Instead of an alien invasion, this is about a natural disaster that the government finds easy to ignore until it is too late. Much like Independance Day, the heroes must battle the elements against almost insurmountable odds. Good points: Lots of action, amazing CG weather effects. Bad points: Those CG wolves, unrealistic physics at times. Yes, I know I'm not a brilliant review of movies and the like, but here it is. Someone else can make a better review if they want. lol My rating: B
