I don't know, but I hate it. Detergent is more expensive too. But to have a high efficiency washer and only wash TWO towels???? Come on, it's not like my mother-in-law is a neat freak that's always on top of her laundry. There are literally mountains of it in her bedroom.

Apparently, when my dad's younger sister bought a new HE washer and dryer they told her that you can buy regular detergent and cut it in half with water and that's the same as the HE detergent

Perhaps it takes an hour because it's using less electricity. I dunno. But we have an HE washer and I love it. It's so quiet I forget it's on.

Actually, JM is right. It takes longer to do a load, because it's using less electricity, drawing less amperage.

Aha, tumble dryers are annoying. They seem to pick and chose which items they will dry. :p

Those new dryers have crazy different settings too. Like, a no heat dry cycle. Which seems kinda pointless.

The set that my roomy bought are pretty cool. You don't have to use special detergent, but they have energy savings cycles that actually sense how much laundry you have in. Like the washer doesn't have a water level setting, it senses it. And the dryer has an energy preferred setting that can sense when everything's dry. They always work perfectly.

And that is super pointless. If you needed towels, why not just grab a bunch of other dirty stuff and throw it in there as well? And from what I knew about HE, I though t that the washers used less/only cold water.
