Princess 35 Posted May 31, 2004 Memorial day is the day that we remember those that have died in service to our country. That's the official version. The unofficial is that every government agency is closed, every bank is closed, most people have the day off and have cookouts and drink too much. It also marks the unofficial start to summer in the States. It's our first of the 3 summer holidays :usa:
Andy 60 Posted May 31, 2004 Ahh. It was a Bank Holiday here today. No special occasion though, just the Spring Bank Holiday. We have a similar sort of day to that though, Remberance Day - 11th November. It was originally to remember the end of the 1st World War, but now it's just a general rememberance of those who have died at war day.
Tsl 7 Posted May 31, 2004 Eh, for me memorial day means a trip to grandpa's grave at the vetern's cemetary in Dayton. A bit depressing. A 21 gun salute scared the crap out of me, cause it was on the other side of the cemetary and I wasn't expecting it, lol. The Airforce band was nice though. Rogue 4 Posted May 31, 2004 Rememberence Day is celebrated over here too, under an Alias---Veteran's day. It's not really a big celebration though. School's still going but the banks are closed. lol Kinda sucks that I have to go to school on my B-day while my mom has off. :???:

Ender 8 Posted June 1, 2004 The weekend also marked the dedication of the National World War II Veteran's Memorial in Washington, D.C. It was a great ceremony, and the memorial is just beautiful.
