Mara 29 Posted October 5, 2006 Okay.... Right now the only access I have is sharing my parents' computer and dial-up. I have my own computer in my room, all hooked up. It can do anything but use the internest, obviously. I'm wondering what would be the easiest way to get some internet. Wireless? But I don't want something too expensive either. Network? I dunno.... I'd have to ask, but I know there used to be a phone jack in my room when they moved in.... the jack is gone, but the line might be there. (I don't know, I'm not sure how that all works). I just would like some options here.
Uncle Du 22 Posted October 5, 2006 If you want broadband, you would definitely pay more for it. And wireless network would cost more on top of that as well. If the old phone line is still in your room, you can set that back up to your computer.
Radioactive Isotope 29 Posted October 5, 2006 there should be a library or coffee shop that would let you have access to wireless.
Brumak 2 Posted October 6, 2006 Or...buy one of the wireless hubs that let you connect to any network in a given area....and steal their connection :p
Radioactive Isotope 29 Posted October 6, 2006 leave it to Vice to suggest something marginally legal. :p
Ayingel 24 Posted October 6, 2006 hey, if people leave their wireless unlocked to the public, they've brought it upon themselves.
Uncle Du 22 Posted October 6, 2006 This is true. Anyone that doesn't protect their network deserves what they get. *goes in search of unprotected networks*
Mara 29 Posted October 7, 2006 Well it'd be silly to have to buy a wireless computer just so I can drive somewhere else to use it.. And well, my dad had considered "borrowing" someone's connection and getting a router or something.... I dunno, I've just been tossing some ideas back and forth. It might not even be worth it I move outta here in a year or two.
Radioactive Isotope 29 Posted October 7, 2006 still, a laptop with a wireless connection would be nice to have
Mara 29 Posted October 9, 2006 Yeah it would. But a pain in the ass to move all my music and other documents to.

Drake 53 Posted October 10, 2006 Hardly. If you already have your own computer and you want to get a laptop, all you'd need is a network cable to link the two together. THen you'd just copy and paste.

Mara 29 Posted October 12, 2006 My brain hurts trying to read that. I dunno, I think a flashdrive would be more helpful in the long run than a network cable.... But this still doesn't solve my problem.
