I have no idea what that last post was about...

1. Bill O'Reilly is a nutjob. And very far right. McCain used to piss off his fellow Republicans by working with the Democrats when he saw fit. Ever since he lost miserably in 2000 though, he swung back to the right, and isn't planning on reaching across party lines, though he continues to use his former bipartisan ways as a way of attracting independents.

2. Obama is a charismatic guy who's trying to bring back a sense of hope in American voters. Mark Hammil played the titular character in the popular first installment of the Star Wars Franchise, A New Hope.

3. Because of his willingness to reach across party lines, McCain was often referred to as a maverick. Maverick is the call sign of Tom Cruise's character in Top Gun.

4. Many of Obama's followers see him as some sort of hero. Hence Captain America. Spiderman is another superhero.

5. McCain is old. So old he served in both Vietnam and[/] the War of 1812.

6. Obama's damn charismatic. How many times do I have to say this?

7. McCain was shot down over Vietnam, and spent the war in a POW camp, despite the fact that he maybe could have gotten out, as his dad was the top Admiral in the Pacific during the war. He's a hero of mine for that, but he's using his war-time experiences (most of which was in a prison camp) as a reason why he knows how to win a war. Nevermind the fact that he served in Vietnam, which we kinda lost. Also can't tell the difference between Sunnis and Shiites, which is step number one to ending a civil war between Sunnis and Shiites.

8. There have been numerous nasty smear campaigns from the Right (and from Clinton), that try to paint Obama as a Muslim. (I mean, gosh, his middle name is Hussein! Gasp! He must be the god-damned anti-christ!). Not that being a Muslim should even be considered a bad thing in the first place. In fact, I want a Muslim as President when we're fighting radical Islam. Because he'll understand who we're fight. Maybe even open up a dialogue so that war can be avoided. Hey, jackasses, it's pronounced ir-aq, not I-rack! And the White House wonders why the people of Iraq don't respect us? Next time our leaders decide to invade a country, I'd like them to know how the ewok to pronounce its name!

still, the Democratic brass broke the rules and should have to abide by the consequences. IIRC, they knew they would lose their votes if they moved up their primary dates and they did it anyway. no, it's not fair to punish the voters for what the leaders did, but this country is never going to get back on track if we don't hold our leaders accountable for their actions. break rules, face consequences. all this has proved is you really can get away with anything if you know the right people. and yes, i would still say this if it had been on the other side of the aisle and/or my state.

out of curiousity, what would you have done? maybe it's because it's early and i haven't had my caffeine yet, but i can't really come up with an alternative punishment that would carry as much weight.

To be honest, I don't have as firm a grip on the situation as I probably should, so I'm mostly speaking generally. I'm sure there's something that can be done to the local Democratic officials without penalizing the voters, but I don't know what.

Actually, I'm not a huge fan of the way primaries are run in the first place. Iowa gets it's voice heard first and has a disproportionate amount of sway over the rest of the election, and the primaries are usually won long before South Dakota gets its vote. *shrug*
