Those things are usually never broadcast on tv, and only can be found on blurry footage on YouTube. They don't mean that he's actually gay, just that his entire personality is a collection of offensive gay stereotypes. In fact, they even say "So evidently the first gay Star Wars character also had to be a depraved sexual lunatic," saying that obviously, the vast majority of homosexuals aren't sexual lunatics, and Star Wars had a chance to introduce its first gay or gay-seeming character as a perfectly rational, normal person, and instead went for the easy jokes. And it isn't so much that the character is retarded because he's gay, but that he's retarded because he's a teeth-gratingly annoying ewokwit. I'm not sure if the article did a good job capturing it, (and, like a true nerd, I had many objections to that article. I even considered pitching them a counter-article where angrily respond about how the writer "just didn't get it.") but when I saw him reappear in the first season's finale, I damn near through my monitor across the room.
