Princess 35 Posted May 8, 2008 I finally got my blood donor card and I found out I'm O+. That was unspected. That makes you common. What type did you think that you were?
TheUnknown 39 Posted May 8, 2008 I thought I was B+. And I thought the o gene was recessive. How can it be the most common?
Princess 35 Posted May 8, 2008 (edited) O is recessive, however, there are three alleles for ABO type, A, B and O. We assume that most people are heterozygous for A and B, thus are a combination of AO and BO, since AB is the rarest blood type. A and B are codominant while they always dominate over O, now assume that mom and dad are AO and BO, you can have a child who is AO, BO, OO or AB. And say on parent is OO and one is BO, you can only get B or O types out of that mating. A+ and O+ are the two most common blood types Edited May 8, 2008 by Princess
TheUnknown 39 Posted May 8, 2008 Most common for all humans or just in the United States?

Princess 35 Posted May 8, 2008 Most common for all humans or just in the United States? All humans, however it can vary with region. I think it's something around 45% and 40% for the two blood types. For example, there's a region in Bombay that has what's called the Bombay Phenotype and those people can't even take type O blood, they have to have blood of the Bombay Phenotype it's like little o or something like that
Radioactive Isotope 29 Posted May 8, 2008 now THAT's weird.
