Day Two: Revelations

"But...but...I can help!" came Kurt's pleading reply. But it was too late and they were already outside.

Peter ran out the front door with Scott and Jean close behind. "There's a possible civilian parked near the front gate," he shouted back to them. "We'll have to keep our powers from her view." Peter cut across the lawn towards the hidden gate on the western side of the property. It would let them out near Neil's position.

The tall Russian reached the gate first but stopped, before opening it, to switch to his armoured form. "How do you want to do this?" he asked, in a lowered voice, to Scott.

Neil was already on the move. Now that he was fully juiced he felt the urge to ditch that cheerleader as well. He had a feeling the X-geeks would be coming out to see what their power problem was. Strategically, with Gertie parked out front it was possible that they wouldn't use the front gates. He decided to leave them a little surprise. He turned on a hose from the house next door and turned it on, spraying the sidewalk and dropping it to pool there for a moment before turning it off. He cut the electrical wire, dropping it down into the newly formed puddle that covered the walk.

"Have fun with 'at," He grinned as he walked down the street.

"Okay, we have to move fast. I guarantee Fusion won't be around long to wait for us. Jean, do you think you could open the gate for us? Peter I need you prepared if he tries to strike at short distance. I'll keep both of you covered from a distance." Scott grabbed the frame of his glasses and faced towards the gate. "Everyone ready?!"

"Da," replied Colossus. He clenched his fists.

"Let's go," came the command from Cyclops.

The gate, on their side, looked like just another part of the steel wall surrounding the property but, to the outside, it blended in with the layer of hedge that hid the security wall. With a mental command from Jean, it flung open and Colossus was through.

When he stepped onto the sidewalk, a sudden electric tingle passed through his metallic body and gave him pause. Colossus spotted the cable and the puddle he was standing in then held up a hand to stop Scott and Jean. "Watch it. Go around." He grabbed the cable and tossed it to the sidewalk away from the puddle then continued after Neil.

Jean grabbed Scott by the shoulders and flew over the puddle, looking down at it. "Well, that would have been unpleasant, to say the least."

"You're telling me. We have got to catch up to him. Any way you could find out where he is? We need to find out where Fusion could be headed and cut him off before he gets there." Scott followed Peter in the direction he was headed hoping it was the right way. All they needed now was to go the wrong way and they'd never catch up to Neil. He ruined our game, now he has to pay!

Jean flew ahead a few feet to give her a precious moment to focus on finding him while the men caught up. She extended her telepathy, trying to find his thoughts and track them down. "I think I found him...he's thinking car parts. The funny thing is he thinks in his accent too."

"You know, we could always just sneak out," Chase muttered. "Well, I could."

Colossus rounded the corner and saw Fusion walking across the street towards a row of parked cars at the side of the road. Thankfully, it was pretty late at night and no one was outside or driving past. That meant Colossus wouldn't need to worry about being spotted in his metallic form.

He couldn't disguise his heavy footfalls, however, and the rumble of his running feet would be heard and felt well before he could get up close and personal with Fusion. Instead he put on as much speed as he could. Colossus was halfway across the street, several metres behind Fusion, when he leapt into the air. His powerful legs propelled the body of organic steel over two metres into the air before his weight dropped him like a 500 pound rock.

"Good day, comrade!" Colossus shouted.

The Russian landed in a crouch, bringing his fists down with his momentum and slamming them into the pavement. The blow cracked and cratered the road and sent a shockwave radiating outward. The focus of the pulse made a line directly for Fusion.

Gertie impatiently tapped the steering wheel. "Ugh....why do guys always take so long?" She looked at her watched and groaned. "Fifteen minutes? This is ridiculous. I'm leaving." She took turned her car around and made her way home. She turned up the radio as the new Britney Spears song came on. Gertie sang along all the way back to her house.

Feck! The Irishman thought, seeing the Russian launch at him and the ground breaking in his direction. He dived to get out of the way, rolling and coming up in a crouch. His blue eyes turned red and seemed to spark with energy. "Ah, Tank. It's been what...sixteen hours since we last fought? Seriously, people say that I'm a walking bomb of anger."

"Far too long," said Colossus. "Give me your best shot!" He marched forward, all the while bracing for the inevitable attack by the hot-headed young man.

It didn't come in the way he was expecting it. Neil raised a small energy barrier at Colossus' feet, and laughed as the giant fell to the ground. "Ah, the fall of the Tinman. What a grand spectacle."

Colossus rolled through the fall, coming up right in front of the laughing Fusion. A large metallic fist shot forward, connecting with the other man's stomach. "I may be big but I'm not stupid."

"Kenjutsu, huh? Sounds like fun... and looks like you can play with the real swords here any time you'd want..." Kelly smiled at Danny.

Marcus turned back from looking at the wall of weapons. "I think that we should probably get back upstairs. It's getting late and I don't want to find out what Mystique would do if she found us down here." He started back up the stairs.

"Sounds like a good idea. I don't think I really want to meet this woman, after all you've said about her." Kelly looked around once more before following the others out.

[Rogue 4]

"Mebbe not stupid, but you defn'atly arn't smart either." He said as he focussed his energy into a laser that sliced down a telephone pole and sent it crashing down towards the big metal man and knocking him to the ground. "'Ere's a tip fer you. Leave me the feck alone or I might pay your little sister another visit. I think she's fond of me, you know?" He placed his hands on the poll, charging it with his special brand of biokinetic energy before turning to flee.

Colossus hurried to his feet and grabbed the telephone pole. He would only have several seconds before Neil's energy fully metabolized and turned the pole into a giant bomb. Colossus lifted the pole, aiming it straight up, then shouted, "Jean! A little boost here!"

He hurled the glowing telephone pole into the sky with all his might.

"I got it!" She exclaimed, extending a hand and her mind towards the object. She gave it a great telekinetic shove farther into the air. When she opened her eyes, Scott was yelling.

"Everyone get down!" He exclaimed, pulling Jean behind a car for cover.

Colossus looked up into the sky as the telephone pole exploded in a ball of fire. He looked back down and around for any sign of Neil, as flaming splinters rained down around him, but the Irish villian was no where to be seen.

"Blei!" he exclaimed. [damn]

"What the hell was that?" Chase said, startled as he heard the bang. He rushed over to the window to see flaming splinters of wood falling from the sky in the street a bit further out from the gardens.

Lila hurried over to her window as the bang went off. Not seeing anything, she hurried out of her room to look for a better view.

Colossus went over to where Jean and Scott were. "He got away," he said. "The worm always uses that method to escape. He is a coward!" The big man shifted back to his regular forum. His body changing from metal to flesh.

Peter kept promising himself that he would make Neil pay for his crimes. He would pay for hiding Peter's sister from him. He fought down the urge to break something. Giving in to destructive impulses was not the X-Men way. The Russian glanced at Jean and could tell from the look the telepath gave him that she could sense what he was going through.

"Come on," he said at last. "Let's go check on the children."

The three veteran mutants returned through the hidden side-entrance as the sounds of sirens could be heard in the distance.

Natalie walked over to Marcus and gave the older boy a small hug. "I'd better drive Kelly home, and get home myself...Dad's probably waiting up for me after what happened this afternoon with the...King Kong movie." She covered up. "I'll see you in class tommorrow okay?"
