Andy 60 Posted November 5, 2008 (edited) Notable NPCs Midholme None yet! Everholde His Majesty King Haldric II of Lyrea. Player Characters Please read the Information Thread for details on Player Character options! Name: Taylor (Tay) Vaughan Age: 18 Gender: Male Race: Human Alignment: Chaotic Neutral Class: Rogue Occupation: Kitchen assistant Weapons: Dagger Background: Taylor grew up on the streets of the City of Everholde where he made a meagre yet mildly successful living as a pickpocket and was a member of a thieves guild up until towards the end of the war with the Satyr. He fell out of favour with his guild over a petty argument and was tricked into burgling the house of a respected gentleman of the city. When caught be city officials, they decided because of his age and the political climate of the time he would be put to work instead of imprisoned, and was sent to Midholme where many of the people had left to join the war and help was much needed. He spent a few years doing odd jobs around the town before becoming a kitchen assistant at the castle. He is loyal to those who gain his respect, and grateful for the chances he has been given since leaving the streets, but is often extremely cautious and wary of the intentions of people he does not know very well. Appearance: - - - - - Name: Irvine Jamison Age: 52 Gender: Male Race: Human Alignment: Lawful Neutral Class: Warrior Occupation: Swordsmaster Weapons: Various swords, most notably a two-handed claymore. Background: A foot soldier since he turned 15, Irvine rose to become one of the greatest swordsmen of his time, and at the height of his pre-war career he won several contests which earnt him a bit of wealth. When he was 39 the Satyr declared war and his fame as an expert swordsman, he was tasked by personal request of the King with training of recruits to ensure they could handle the best weapons the Kingdom could produce. He accepted the position, despite truely wanting to be closer to the front line-action to prove himself in true combat. Now semi-retired and living in his hometown of Midholme, he can often be seen in the castle courtyard providing training, with various types of sword, for young squires and aspiring Knights. Vergere 1 Posted November 5, 2008 (edited) Name: Tanalyn Sairabrindal - goes by Tana, or simply Ranger; those that know her well sometimes call her Tanalyn Age: 44 Race: Half Human / Half Elf Alignment: Natural Class: Ranger Weapons: Bow/quiver, throwing knives, one longer knife for self defense Background: Tana is someone who seems humourless, boring, and grim when she is first met, but continued conversations reveal her to have a wickedly dry sense of humour and sarcasm. She always enjoys a good cup of coffee while on the road, and therefore always has some in her packs. As a Ranger, she tends to keep to herself, except when she is relaying news to various people or out scouting. An expert archer, she only keeps a pair of knives on her for self defense, preferring to keep danger at bay with her arrows. She has a small, stocky horse that many find ugly, but Tana finds the mare, named Zada, to be perfect for her ? fast, tireless, reliable, nimble, and intelligent. Having been trained as a Ranger since she was about 12 by her mentor, Tanalyn was given the title of a full Ranger when she was 22. She has since become a highly respected Ranger and has the more difficult jobs and missions, for she has both the skills of humans and elves, and the finesse to pull it off. Tana is considered one of the most skilled Rangers of the day, and thus is considered a senior ranger, giving her added responsibilities but also added respect. She is part of the tightly-knit, somewhat arcane and mysterious Ranger community, which makes many regard her as an unknown and somewhat frightening because of the mystery that shrouds the Ranger class. They have been known to work in pairs before, although because of the fact there are so few of them, they tend to prefer to do solo work as they?ve been trained for. Liable only to the king, she has the ability to work under the radar and perhaps do some things that for most citizens would be illegal. She also has a less strict view of the rules than, say, a knight, who lives by an honor code, which allows her to bend the rules to fit her needs while out scouting and finishing a job. She tends to work as a spy, a scout, and a general jack-of-all-trades that fulfills the king?s wishes and commands in regards to secret missions given to her, and is also skilled at planning and analyzing battles, and thinking outside the box. While not considered a mage, she does have a slight bit of magical abilities, such as being able to be ignored even when someone is looking right at her. They tend to be hit and miss when it comes to finding minor magics she can use, but they are guaranteed to be helpful in her profession, and tend to come to light when they are needed most. Tana is proud, however, to say that her impressive prowess with her archery is all hers, and there is no magic involved in her fighting ability. Appearance: Warmly but fair skin; thick chestnut hair; gentle brown eyes; a bit taller than is typical but not to be messed with. She looks human, but has elfin features, such as sharper features, elfin ears, and faster reflexes. She has the appearance of someone who is in her early 20s, and her features tend to be flawless. Very few but the king and some advisors realize her heritage of being half human and half elf, as she is so human in appearance. She keeps her ears hidden within her hair and oftentimes under a cloak's hood, so that she does not make people even more uncomfortable in her presence than they already are, simply because of her profession. ~*~*~*~*~*~ Name: Beka Chase Age: 22 Race: Human Alignment: Chaotic Neutral Class: Swashbuckler/Pirate Weapons: Sword, knives Background: Having an easygoing nature, Beka finds piracy to be loads of fun and enjoys finding the good in everything. Rarely is she upset, and if she is, she tends to get back into a good mood very easily. She loves to laugh and has fun playing pranks on unsuspecting people. Currently hiding away from the ships due to some? misunderstandings? Beka has taken refuge working as a juggler and common jester around the city, randomly pick-pocketing people when the opportunities present themselves. She is a pretty good singer, so she sings little songs to entertain people, does some simple magic tricks that are more along the lines of slight-of-hand maneuvers, and other comedic acts. However, for all of her laughter and games, Beka has a very strong sense of personal views. While she doesn?t mind the occasional theft and stealing, she does not agree with physical abuse and does not tolerate it if she sees it. She has gotten herself into many fights with those who bully their way through situations. She is also very intelligent and a good people-reader, having the ability to gauge personalities and professions by the way people walk and hold themselves, which can be very valuable if anyone learned about it. Appearance: Pale skin, tanned only by the sun; straight flaming red hair; hazel grey eyes; freckles; tall and lean. She usually wears her hair in braids so that it stays out of her face. Rogue 4 Posted November 5, 2008 (edited) Name: Morgan Age: 25 Race: Human Alignment: Chaotic Neutral "Anarchist" Class: Treasure Hunter Weapons: Dagger, traps. Background: Morgan is an adventurer at heart, enjoying great adventures and big payoffs. She's not used to losing, even to rival Treasure Hunters. However, because she's often on the wrong side of the law, government officials and her don't exactly get along. She also makes a lot of bad enemies along the way, but it's all a part of the ride for her. She's sneaky, devious and only loyal to a contract. Morgan is independant, snarky, and mysterious, but she likes it that way. She doesn't consider herself noble, or honorable, and can actually be extremely self serving at times. She's also a realist. She knows her skills, she knows her limitations, and she knows what she wants and isn't going to settle for anything less. Appearance: Name: Alexis Tyanti Age: 20 Race: Human Alignment: Neutral Good "Benefactor" Class: Sorceress Weapons: Staff Background: Alexis was born and raised in Midholme, where she's been her entire life. She hasn't been particularly adventurous in life...besides her studies of the arcane magics, which isfolly as her family sees it. They've all been traders for generations, prospering on the many trade routes leading through Midholme. All except her father that is. Her father was a powerful Sorcerer who was a great hero in the war against the Satyrs. He valiantly fought and died in the very last battle of the war, a tragedy to be sure. Now Alexis seeks to live up to his noble and heroic goals, hoping to make her father, whom she was closest to, happy in the afterlife. This is mostly difficult because although she has an aptitude for sorcery, she's...not very good at it. She's downright clumsy with it actually. It's a problem she's learning to deal with. Her family believes that she's wasting her life, and tries to discourage her. Alexis is a kindhearted soul who is eager to help anyone who needs it, but she's very naive and sheltered. Her quirky nature is endearing to those who get to know her though. Appearance: Edited November 5, 2008 by Rogue
Drake 53 Posted November 5, 2008 (edited) Name: "Axe" (nickname, common name), Sir Kane Wightfall (given name, unknown to everyone that matters) - Dragonmaster, King's Champion, Defender of Nightgarde (titles) Age: 30 Race: Human Alignment: Chaotic Neutral Class: Dragon Rider (retired) Occupation: Blacksmith Weapons: Single-handed Dragon Rider axe, self-reloading crossbow Appearance: Short black hair; weathered face; pocked and scarred skin from battle; hard, brown eyes; well-built and of average height History: Kane Wightfall was born in a small mining village in Northern Lyrea. When he was sixteen, he got into a fight with the local Baron's son after he found the older boy beating on an injured dragon whelp. Fearing severe repercussions and not wishing to become a miner for the rest of his life, Kane ran away from home. He made his way across country, picking up odd jobs to make end’s meat. When the war with the satyrs started, Kane was drafted into the army as an infantry footman. He fought in a few battles before being transferred to the light cavalry. He remained in that position for a year, eventually moving up the ranks to sergeant. During one particularly brutal satyr ambush, Kane's entire company was slain, leaving him the sole survivor. After that, he transferred to the newly forming Dragon Rider Corps. Initially trained to be aerial scouts and messengers, the Dragon Riders did very little. It wasn't until the Battle of Farfield, two and a half years into the war, that things changed. The satyr's were perched upon a high, steep ridge and bombarded the Lyrean forces below while staying in relative safety from anything the humans could muster. Kane, working on several radical ideas, proposed using the dragons against the satyrs. Carrying spellcasters and archers bearing crossbows, the Riders assaulted the ridge. It was a tremendous victory, one that pushed Kane into a promotion and set Lyrea on a path to winning the war. Sadly, once the war had ended, there was little use for Dragon Riders. Money was transferred from the army and put into rebuilding and many Riders returned to their old lives. Their dragons, now too tame to be returned to the wild, were either quietly killed or sold to zoos. Some Riders kept their dragons and made a living in traveling carnivals, giving rides, or as swift messengers and delivery men. Kane grew cynical towards the government for allowing the dragons to be treated so poorly. He left the army and took his dragon, a great red beast named Storm, out into the country. He happened upon a farmhouse that had been abandoned. The farmer no doubt lost in the war and his wife probably moved on to another man. He took residence, keeping Storm in the good-sized barn. The nearby town of Midholde supplied him with food and he began raising cattle for Storm. He took on the nickname Axe, never making known his former life, and eventually got a job as apprentice blacksmith. He took over the job as head blacksmith when his employer passed away a year later. ********** Name: Loreth Aran Age: 107 Race: Elf Alignment: True Neutral / Neutral Good Class: Elementalist, "Shaper" Weapons: Staff Appearance: Shoulder-length, light brown hair; light facial hair; slightly glowing, bright green eyes; average build and height History: Loreth was born in the Elven capital of Wellspring, deep in the vast Titan's Forest to the south-east. It was there that he grew up and trained in the ancient ways of the Elven Shaper: a master of the elemental forces of the world. Through years of study and practice, he learned to commune with the primal spirits of the earth, water, air and fire and, in turn, they granted him command of their powers. Shortly after becoming a fully realized Shaper, Loreth was tasked, by the Elven High Council, with traveling outside of the forest. He was to aid in the regrowth of portions of the human nation of Carcea, that had been devastated by the Second Demon War, nearly one hundred years before. In the decades to come, Loreth would do similar tasks, across the continent, often outside of the knowledge and sight of the inhabitants of those lands. Most recently, he has been sent to the Kingdom of Lyrea to see to damages caused by their war with the Satyrs. Edited November 11, 2008 by Drake
Mara 29 Posted November 6, 2008 (edited) Name: Avee Corlane Age: 22 Race: Human Alignment: mix between Chaotic Neutral and Chaotic Good Class: Rogue/amateur Elementalist Occupation: wanderer/peasant Weapons:longsword, dagger Background: A few months ago a devastating plague struck Avee's small town beyond the boundaries of the Kingdom of Lyrea. Of those who died, two had been her husband Vard (a soldier/guard in the village) and her 2-year-old son Trev. Ever since, she has wished every day that she had died along with her family, so she wouldn't have to be tormented every minute of her life with all the questions of why? She used to be a bright, sunny personality until this tragedy struck her life. Now she seems to be mostly spiteful and angry, and drawn into herself, keeping her fragile emotions hidden. With nothing left for her in her small village and with most of the village itself gone, Avee has been wandering throughout the region, recently passing into Lyrea from the north, following the river south. Midholme is an awakening for her, as it is much larger than the village she grew up in, and she has never seen a castle before. Though she had dabbled in elemental magic as a young girl, in past years has grown away from it, especially in recent months. Appearance: Avee is short but muscular, with long light brown hair and dark brown expressive eyes. To anyone, she would seem an average human peasant with her plain attire, except for that she carries a longsword strapped against her back with a small dagger at her waist: her husband's weapons. [TBD] * * * * * Name: Devlin "Dev" Tiernan Age: 25 Race: Human Alignment: Lawful Good Class: Knight Occupation: squire/knight in training Weapons:shortsword, longsword, dagger Background: The son of Ena Hightower, the daughter of Baron Hightower of Winteroak, and, Aiden Tiernan, a local tradesman from Midholme, Devlin Tiernan is the youngest of four boys (Ronan-34, Neal, Liam-29 and Devlin-25). The couple settled in Midholme after they were married. When old enough, all of the boys began their training to eventually become knights. However, while the three oldest had already become squires, Ena did not allow Dev to follow in the path. As her youngest and favorite, she wanted to keep him at home and did not allow him to progress any further than a page. She wanted him educated but not at the price of his life or his boyhood. What was right for her other sons, was not right for her favorite. For a while he was quite content to be at home with his mother and father, not seeing his brothers often. But as he grew older and he still had not left home, he would beg his mother to let him go on, to no avail. Later when war started, his brothers, along with their father, left to fight for the Kingdom, leaving a sad Devlin at home with the servants and his mother. As an 12-year-old, Dev knew he couldn't join in the fighting, but wished he could at least start his training. Ena Hightower-Tiernan relished her youngest son's presence even more with the rest of the men in her family gone and was glad he was too young. During the long seven years, Devlin contented himself with play-fighting, engaging some of the servant boys in mock duels with wooden swords. When the war was finally over, only three of the four Tiernan men returned to their home alive. His remaining two brothers are now in Everholde serving as guards, having rejected the path of knighthood after the loss of their middle brother in the war. Aiden Tiernan continues to do some trading but mostly stays at home, living off his wife's large dowry. After he finally convinced his parents, including his very reluctant mother, with lots of empty promises, that he could return to his training at the age of 19, Dev has been working hard to follow in the footsteps of his brothers and other great knights, aspiring to be even greater than them. He loves King Haldric II and the whole of Lyrea and can't wait for the moment where he can prove himself to his family and people. Even though much older than many of the squires and knights-in-training under Irvine Jamison, Devlin has shown that the lack of time away from training has done nothing but increase and sharpen his skills time and time again. He considers himself one of the best and hopes soon to be knighted. Appearance: Around six foot tall with deep blue eyes and brown hair, Dev carries himself with extreme confidence, almost to the point of being cocky, especially when showing off his various skills. His friends find him entertaining company to be around, but strangers may find this part of his outgoing personality annoying and grating on the senses. When not training hard, he's dressed in plain attire, forgoing the usual noble attire, but when he trains, he takes with him old armor and weaponry his older brothers left behind before moving to Everholde. Lucky 0 Posted November 7, 2008 Name: Cross Geneva Age: 17 Race: Human Allignment: Lawful Good Class: Footman Occupation: Town Guard Weapons: Double-edged 'Claymore' Background: Before she died one year ago, his 'sister' from the orphanage warned Cross of a danger approaching Lyrea. His sister's thoughts had occasionally been oddly accurate, though she'd only ever shared the oddly accurate ones with him. Believing that she could never be wrong, Cross attempted to convince the people of his small village of a threat to Lyrea, but no one would believe him. He set off for Midholme immediately following these events in order to train to become a Knight and personally protect Lyrea from the foretold danger. Of course, no one told him that only young nobles could train to become Knights. His only other option was to become a Footman. Appearance: *to be added at a later date* Name: Rosalyn "Sherry" Bonefire Age: 59, though she looks to be around 25. Race: Elf Allignment: Neutral Evil Class: Ranger Occupation: Wanderer Weapons: Favors the use of a cross-bow, but is skilled in other various weapons as well. Is also often assisted by a tamed Eagle. Background: Rosalyn (who, due to the fact that she hates her given name, goes by Sherry) was often scolded as a child for her disregard of the careful balance of nature, and the life that lived within it. She never cared for anything beyond her own selfish desires, which led to her desire to become a Ranger, a class trained to survive alone. However, her parents were highly ranked officials on the Elven High Council, and they expected her to join the Council as well. Sherry wouldn't give up her freedom for a position like that, in which she would have to work to enforce the laws that she cared so little for. There was no benefit for her to do any of that, and so she trained as a Ranger until her parents left her with no choice but to either join the Council, or to leave. She chose the latter. Even through the war she wandered the wilderness of the world, and very rarely stayed in civilization. Just recently, Sherry was camping out in a forest near Midholme, when a pack of wolves were attracted to the scent of her dinner. She was taken off guard, as wolves rarely traveled that close to the city. Though she managed to defeat them, they left her severely wounded and with no choice but to travel to Midholme in search of medical aide. Ender 8 Posted November 23, 2008 (edited) Name: Talson Farrow Age: 25 Gender: Male Race: Human Alignment: Chaotic Neutral Class: Ranger/Spy Occupation: Swordsman Weapons: Katana, dagger, bow Background: Talson's parents were the Duke and Duchess of a large landholding near Winteroak, and to be considered trusted confidants of the King. They were not content with their position, however, always scheming to increase their status and, perhaps, one day rise to the throne. One part of this process was to force their son, Talson, into training as a Knight. Always a stubborn child, the boy did not take to the teachings of the Order, and when he was 18, feeling he had learned all he could from his master, a Knight named Corlanus, he fled into the wilderness, taking with him an Elvish katana and bow from his parents' treasures, as well as a considerable sum of gold. Young Farrow evaded capture for nearly a year when Corlanus caught up to him, and they fought, with Talson defeating the knight, but sparing his life. Since then Talson has wandered the kingdom, making himself a master of stealth, able to disappear at a moment's notice. He takes odd jobs from time to time, to keep himself sharp, but largely keeps to himself at his home in the south. W4rBe4st 0 Posted November 25, 2008 Name: Angar?to S?ralond? Age: 70 Gender: Male Race: Elf Alignment: Chaotic Neutral Class: Dragon Rider (retired) Occupation: Hunter for the local Butcher Weapons: Greatsword, Longbow, and Dagger (All Elvish made) Background: Angar?to was born in the elvish city of Correthavel. He was raise by the elves to be one of their greatest warriors, even achieving a renown status among the elves at an early age of 45. Because of his prowess in combat, Angar?to was chosen to be an elvish Dragon Rider. Due to this choice by the elvish military Angar?to was put through incredible amounts of physical training and taught to attain and control the beast that was to become his mount. When his training was complete the elves took Angar?to to a nearby area where several fully-grown dragons were known to nest and told him that he was to search for the dragon that best suited him. Angar?to searched for hours until he happened upon a blue dragon being attack by two slightly larger ones. He attempted to save the dragon and ended up buying the dragon enough time to fend off its attackers. Angar?to decided to name the dragon Amras which meant, ?Blue as the Ocean Depths? in elvish. The two returned to the elves and Angar?to was sure to never mention that he had not tamed the dragon but only befriended it. As time grew their bond grew stronger and the elves eventually grew confident enough that they sent the two of them off to aid their warriors and the other Riders in the war. But that after the war ended the elves did as always had, and withdrew from the other races and secluded themselves in the forest. This however, did not sit well with Angar?to who had met a human by the name of Lucien Baddock. The two had managed to become friends and learn one anothers? language. It was because of this friendship though that Angar?to was able to show compassion for the human race, and it was for that reason that he and Amras left their home of Correthavel in order to stay in touch with the humans. But as the two drew nearer to the main human city of Everholde they came across the corpses of many of the dragons that had belonged to other riders in the war. This forced them to realize that they were foolish to act so quickly without considering their limited usefulness to the humans now that the war was over. And having defied orders and left the elves, they could no longer simply return unless they had absolutely no other option. So the two decided to find somewhere to live on their own. While traveling though a forest toward a known human town called Midholme, the two discovered an old abandoned lumber mill, which Angar?to presumed had been used during the war. While examining the mill he noticed that the central room had a large entrance and an elevated ceiling. He called in Amras and discovered that the dragon could in fact get inside using the door and had a decent amount of room to move around. So he looked at the dragon and said ?We will make this our home, at least for now.? He noticed four block-like holes in the sides of the mill where smaller lumber had been brought in. He decided that these would need to be filled in with new lumber and that one would be where they constructed a fireplace. He searched the mill until he found an old ax that was still useable. ?It will be an easy enough project,? he thought. Angar?to knew how to build a log cabin so this wouldn?t be that hard and he knew how to make a cement-like substance out of very common herbs and water that he could use to hold stones in place for a fireplace. The whole project took the two companions about four days, but it also gave Angar?to a good amount of knowledge of the surrounding area. For example, he knew that there was little, if any herbs around the area that were safe to eat besides spices, which there were plenty of. This had forced him to swallow his elvish pride and eat some of the smaller animals in the area, and to kill deer for Amras. The dragon didn?t like that he was being fed instead of getting to hunt, but he also understood the need to remain hidden, at least at the moment. Angar?to had also found a fresh water stream by the mill that led to a lake in the middle of the forest. He allowed his dragon to leave the mill and travel to this lake in order to have a drink. The trees, though their tangled branches made the sky disappear in the forest, had trunks that were far enough apart to allow the dragon to walk to the lake. Angar?to figured that it was not like anyone would ever see Amras from the sky, especially if the other Riders were no longer in service. The lake also provided fish, which was a slightly better alternative food source in Angar?to?s opinion. Angar?to also had heard from a group of travelers just outside of the forest that the town of Midholme lay just about a mile away from the forest?s edge. It was this piece of information though that he valued greatly. He knew that he would have to find a town for supplies sooner or later. It was because of this that he searched the surrounding area of the mill as well as the whole interior for scraps of clothing if there was any. He found just enough to make a makeshift cloak, some gloves, and a few other clothing items that would hide his elvish appearance from the humans. He did not want to be seen in the open until he knew how the human civilians felt towards his species, nor did he wish to call much attention to himself anyway. He made an initial trip to town the next day to enlist himself as a hunter for the local butcher. When asked what his name was, he at first struggle to recall what his name meant in English. So he just asked to be called Hunter, it wasn't a title per say, but it was the closest translation of his name that he could think of. The butcher seemed nice enough despite Angar?to?s odd appearance, and agreed that once a week Angar?to could bring in whatever beasts he could catch and that the would be paid what the butcher could spare for the catches. Aside from the butcher though Angar?to didn?t speak to anyone else. He kept to himself but kept his ears open so that he may just get lucky and find his old war friend Lucien. Appearance: Short white hair, green eyes, and purple tinted skin, tall semi-muscular figure.

Always running in the woods with his dog pretending to be a great warrior of sorts. His adventures would range from a few hours to 2 or 3 days. In these extended stays Lucien learned how to live of the land. Using what his father had taught him about berries, animals and making fire and a shelter. He and his dog would run through the forest fully carefree while Lucien was 5 until he was 7. At 10 he began training with his father with swords and bows. He would go through spars and training exercises with his father. Then go to an archery range practicing on idle and moving targets. He practiced every day in case the day came where he?d have to protect his family from anything. Lucien always imagined someone breaking into his family?s house and him needing to be able to defend his mother, father and sister At the age of 18, Lucien ran into an elf named Angarato Saralonde. After taking the time to understand each other?s language, they were able to communicate. Soon they began to spar with each other, bettering each other?s fighting tactics. They became good friends upon parting on their own paths. Now at 20 Lucien is an extraordinary swords man and one accurate shot.
