The Inebriation Station

I went to the nourishment room near the nurse's station to hear that another patient in the oncology section just died.  I heard the nurse calling the coroner I guess.  He was younger than my mom by a few months.  I'm sitting beside her watching her sleep and noticing she looks like my grandpa who died of yet another form of cancer four years ago.  I feel like crying.

I wish I could say something that would make you feel better, but it's one of those crappy situations where it's difficult to predict what will happen. I've seen your updates on Facebook and it sounds like she is getting the care she needs, so fingers crossed for good news soon.

Thanks.  She got to go home and is eating a lot better.

Oh, that's good that she's been able to go home... Being stuck in hospital can be quite demoralising on it's own.

I still don't know why anyone would buy it when it's available for free on the internet :p

I need a liquid insanity, something that's less insane than the clusterewok that was the Iowa Caucuses.

Like I said on Facebook, I picked a hell of a time to get a job at the ER.

I also picked a hell of a time to start a 401(k).

I may have been exposed.  I wore a mask and sanitized my hands before and after.  I have a high-risk person (possibly two) in my house, so I'm worried something got through.

If you work in the ER and you have vulnerable people living with you, shouldn't they be isolating you from them? ?

Over here they are putting medical staff up in hotels if they live with vulnerable people, or other people with high risk of exposure.

The guy who sits next to me at work, his girlfriend works in radiology at a local hospital so I've been getting the inside scoop. We're all working from home now though.

You would think.  But I live in a country and a state where some (not necessarily in healthcare) are being told, "We don't have the supplies to test you.  Just isolate yourself for two weeks" with no regards to whether you have paid time off (or insurance to help if you do get sick).  And our chuckleewok president (and others in his party) is already calling for an end to social distancing in order to save the stock market.  So probably not.

So, this is a bit random, but I'm sure most people know I've had my ups and downs over the years and that I've struggled with mental health on and off, but over the past few months I've been looking into things and I've come to a conclusion; I'm pretty confident that I am an undiagnosed autistic, nearer to a milder edge of the spectrum of course.

I've been gathering evidence from my current and past experiences, I also have my old school reports to look back on, and there is at least one thing on my medical record (which I have only recently seen part of) that could be flagged as an early sign that was missed due to poor understanding of the condition in the early to mid 80s when it was recorded.

For years I have been trying to make sense of why I am the way I am, because it is a bit of a cliche but I have always felt different and like I didn't really fit in with other people, with my awkward social skills (in real life) being a reflection of this.

I've spoken to my doctor about it and he is currently looking into getting me a referral for an assessment, although I've been warned that (even if we ignore the current situation with Coronavirus) NHS funding isn't great for diagnosing adults and that there is often a long waiting list. I've spoken to a lot of autistic people on forums and social media, and I was surprised at how many of my own experiences matched up with theirs and I definitely feel like I understand myself more when I look back at my past issues while bearing autism in mind.

I'm in the same boat.  I definitely have social anxiety (as well as general anxiety).  I've always chalked things up to that and the things that have contributed: isolation, bullying, negative social experiences, etc.  But I've wondered too if I'm on the spectrum.  And like so many of my mental and social issues, it's always hard to disentangle what are "normal" feelings and experiences and problems and what isn't.  Like, I know everyone has those moments of not knowing what to say or how to act, but when is it signs of a real problem?  How severe and how often?

Yeah, that's the problem with self analysing, I guess, which is why I've asked for an assessment because it's the only way to be sure. If it turns out that I am on the spectrum then I'll have an answer, but if not then I hope the assessors can at least point to speed other cause.

Luckily adult autism assessments are free on the NHS here, so well see. It'll probably be a long wait though.

Phew.

Took four days, but I I did it. I watched all 11 Star Wars feature films to celebrate May the Fourth. And the ending of Clone Wars (last four episodes, was saving them up to watch at once).

I dunno about you guys but 2020 is really getting to me. It's like living through a disaster movie.

Then the week before last my nana passed away unexpectedly, came as a real shock and it's really thrown me off balance.
