  1. As we eagerly close in on next months release of the upcoming space combat game Star Wars: Squadrons, EA has released a visually stunning CG animated short to introduce us to the world that awaits us when we enter the game. Neel Upadhye directed the animated short, titled Hunted, which was created in collaboration with Squadrons developer Motive Studios and Lucasfilm, along with a dash of expertise from skilled visual effects artists at ILM such as Star Wars veteran John Knoll. Squadrons features a single-player story mode featuring new and familiar characters and starships from the Empire and the Republic, as well as a squad-based multiplayer dogfight mode that will see the factions face off against each other in the aftermath of the Galactic Civil War. You can read more about Hunted on the official Star Wars website here: https://www.starwars.com/news/star-wars-squadrons-hunted Star Wars: Squadrons launches on 2 October 2020, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and on PC via the Origin, Steam, and Epic stores.
  2. EA's flagship Star Wars game Battlefront II has added a new multiplayer game mode today with Capital Supremacy. Capital Supremacy sees opposing teams fight for control of five command posts on the ground, each of which reward the controlling team with reincforcements to bolster their position. Once a team has gathered enough reinforcements transport ships will be spawned, allowing the team to attack the enemy capital ship and win the match. The first map is based on Geonosis, and is a brand new map that will be unfamiliar to players. As the new Capital Supremacy game mode is set within the Clone Wars era, players on side of the Republic will need to bring down a Separatist Dreadnought, while those fighting for the Confederacy will need to take out the Republic Attack Cruiser. Heroes for the Republic include Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, Yoda, and Chewbacca, with new Infiltrator-class Republic ARC Troopers providing reinforcements. The Seperatists are include General Grievous, Count Dooku, Darth Maul, and Bossk, with BX Commando Droids helping defend their command posts. The update also includes improved lightsaber combat, and you can read more in the offical patch notes here.
  3. EA have revealed during their recent financial statement that Respawn Entertainment's Star Wars video game, Jedi: Fallen Order, will release in autumn 2019. Despite being highly anticipated by fans there is little information available about Jedi: Fallen Order, and no screenshots or footage has been revealed. The game is set in the period between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, and is said to follow a Jedi being hunted down by agents of the Galactic Empire. Respawn's founder Vince Zampella has said that the game will be a single player action adventure game, that will (unsurprisingly) feature lightsaber combat. Development of the game is being lead by Stig Asmussen who was previously the creative lead on God of War III. In a 2016 blog post, Asmussen stated that Respawn "promise to pay respect to the Star Wars legacy at all times, a fact that will be constantly reinforced and honored as a central game design tenet." We impatiently await further details.

  8. Multiplayer support for popular Star Wars games Empire at War and Battlefront 2, meaning players who still use those games will find that the multiplayer functions of the game no longer work. GameSpy, which was owned by entertainment network IGN, was effectively shut down in February 2013 and Glu Mobile maintained servers up until recently when it was announced that the remainder of the legacy multiplayer servers will cease operating. This news comes as a blow to Star Wars gamers, particularly Battlefront fans who still have a while to go before the newest iteration of Battlefront is released next year.

  10. Star Wars gaming licence holders EA have begun recruiting for an as yet unnamed Star Wars project. The games giant is currently looking for two Executive Producers and a Senior Environment Artist based in California and British Columbia. Both of these locations are home to EA subsidiary developer Visceral, most well known for their Dead Space series of video games. The advertised job titles seem to suggest that this is a project in its very early stages, but it could always be possible that they are picking up development from a previous title or making a sequel to a preexisting Star Wars games series. All clues seen thus far are that this will be a 'HD console title', so it is likely that this will be heading to Playstation 4 and Xbox One. Click here to view the article

  12. So far the only confirmed game in development is DICE's next installment in the Star Wars: Battlefront series, with development and support continuing as planned for the MMO The Old Republic. EAs chief financial officer, Blake Jorgenson, insists that they do not plan on simply creating games based on the movies and will continue to delve into and add to the rich diversity of the expanded universe. BioWare, original developers of the Knights of the Old Republic series, and Dead Space developer Visceral have also been mentioned in connection to future Star Wars titles. Unfortunately, however, there has still been no sign of a revival of the eagerly anticipated 1313 project.
