Ewan McGregor has confirmed that filming for the Obi-Wan Kenobi series for Disney+ will begin in March 2021. The reveal came during McGregor's appearance on the BBC's Graham Norton Show this Friday. The series is a six-episode limited series set in the time when Kenobi was exiled on Tatooine between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, 11 years before the Battle of Yavin. Production has been delayed due to the Covid-19 outbreak, and although no release date has yet been announced it is expected to premiere on the Disney+ streaming service in late 2021 or early 2022.

Deborah Chow has been chosen to direct the upcoming Disney+ Obi-Wan Kenobi TV series, it has been announced. The announcement came via the official Star Wars Instagram, and later confirmed via an interview with Variety. Chow's TV credits include Better Call Saul, the adaptation of Neil Gaiman's American Gods novels, and Netflix/Marvel show Jessica Jones, as well as already having a hand in upcoming show The Mandalorian. We really wanted to select a director who is able to explore both the quiet determination and rich mystique of Obi-Wan in a way that folds seamlessly into the Star Wars saga. Based on her phenomenal work developing our characters in The Mandalorian, I'm absolutely confident Deborah is the right director to tell this story. Kathleen Kennedy Ewan McGregor will be reprising the role of Obi-Wan, which he made his own in the Star Wars prequels. Not much is known about the show, except that it is set eight years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, which puts it at around 11 years before the original Star Wars movie. The Obi-Wan TV series, which will be a Disney+ exclusive, doesn't have a release date yet, but is expected to begin shooting next year.

Kenobi is a new novel from John Jackson Miller about, you guessed it, Obi-Wan Kenobi. It follows Obi-Wan's early days of exile on Tattooine following the events of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. The Republic has fallen. Sith Lords rule the galaxy. Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi has lost everything . . . Everything but hope. Tatooine—a harsh desert world where farmers toil in the heat of two suns while trying to protect themselves and their loved ones from the marauding Tusken Raiders. A backwater planet on the edge of civilized space. And an unlikely place to find a Jedi Master in hiding, or an orphaned infant boy on whose tiny shoulders rests the future of a galaxy. Known to locals only as “Ben,” the bearded and robed offworlder is an enigmatic stranger who keeps to himself, shares nothing of his past, and goes to great pains to remain an outsider. But as tensions escalate between the farmers and a tribe of Sand People led by a ruthless war chief, Ben finds himself drawn into the fight, endangering the very mission that brought him to Tatooine. Ben—Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, hero of the Clone Wars, traitor to the Empire, and protector of the galaxy’s last hope—can no more turn his back on evil than he can reject his Jedi training. And when blood is unjustly spilled, innocent lives threatened, and a ruthless opponent unmasked, Ben has no choice but to call on the wisdom of the Jedi—and the formidable power of the Force—in his never-ending fight for justice.
