  1. Andy

    Rogue Squadron movie release date

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron is released today.
  2. Andy

    Rogue Squadron

The release date was announced by Disney in May 2019 to be 16 December 2022, but was pushed back by the Covid-19 pandemic. Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed on 14 May 2019 that this movie would be the first film from David Benioff and DB Weiss, the creators of the Game of Thrones TV adaptation, but on 28 October the pair stepped away from the project citing scheduling conflicts due to a deal with Netflix. During Disney's 2020 Investor's Day call it was announced that this would be Rogue Squadron and would be directed by Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins.
  3. What a year it's been. What, it's only April? Apologies for the late reporting of this news but I've been somewhat distracted of late, what with everything going on in the world right now. On 3rd April Disney released a revised release schedule of their upcoming releases for the next couple of years. There has been considerable alteration to many release dates, such as the upcoming Marvel movies, but one thing that hasn't changed is the release date for the Star Wars movie scheduled for release on 16 December 2022. It is reassuring to see this still listed on the schedule, as Disney has recently been redoubling their efforts on their new Disney+ streaming service and there has been no further solid news about the 2022 movie or what it may entail. The schedule only goes as far as the end of 2022, so there is no confirmation that the Star Wars movies set for release in 2024 and 2026 are unaffected, although I think it is safe to assume that they are still planned at the moment. We will continue to watch this space.
  4. While Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker currently enjoys it's run on the big screen, and The Mandalorian steals the fandom's hearts over on Disney+ attention turns to the future of Star Wars; specifically those new Star Wars movies scheduled for 2022, 2024, and 2026. Project Luminous is an ambitious multimedia project announced at Star Wars Celebration Chicago in April 2019, and much like the "Journey to Star Wars..." projects it will span both books and comics, and if the latest rumours are to be believed it will factor into future movies and video games too. Little is known about Project Luminous at the moment, save that it is due some time in 2020 and has some big names attached to it: Cavan Scott, Claudia Gray, Charles Soule, Daniel José Older, and Justina Ireland are all confirmed to be involved. New rumours suggest that Project Luminous is set around 400 years before the Skywalker Saga, and would involved a group of Jedi with different strengths in the Force venturing off into unknown space where they encounter ancient evils and dark side energies. The different strengths are said to be similar to how a team of superheros has differing powers, so perhaps these Jedi all have unique rare gifts that complement each other when they work together. The idea of unique or rare powers have has surfaced at least a few times recently. As this is all speculation at this point, I won't drop any spoiler bombs, but The Rise of Skywalker, Respawn's action adventure game Jedi: Fallen Order, and Disney+ TV show The Mandalorian all feature "rare" manifestations of the Force. Coincidence? Perhaps, but it is interesting to note that Jedi: Fallen Order also happens to feature a race of unknown Force users that struggled with the dark side before they left their ancient temples and headed off into the great unknown. Meanwhile, another rumour insists that sources have informed them that the Star Wars 2022 movie will be set in an era called the "High Republic" era, where the Old Republic and the Jedi Order are at their peak right in the middle of the 1000-year peace at around... 400 years before the Skywalker Saga. A younger Yoda will be apparently be involved, although he is not quite the wise old Jedi Grand Master we see in the Skywalker Saga. It had already been rumoured that the Star Wars 2022 film was to be set in the Old Republic era, and the film was originally confirmed to be helmed by Game of Thrones duo David Benioff and DB Weiss before they pulled out of the project. While we can only speculate right now, some kind of announcement regarding Project Luminous and Star Wars 2022 is expected to come at some point this year.
  5. The creative duo behind the hit TV show Game of Thrones have reportedly stepped away from Star Wars, according to a report by Deadline. David Benioff and DB Weiss joined the Star Wars family with much fanfare earlier this year, to head up a new series of films starting in 2022. Rumours had circulated that the film was to be based in the Old Republic era, possibly an adaptation of the beloved Knights of the Old Republic RPG games. The pair have cited their reason for leaving the project as being due to commitments with their recent $200 million Netflix deal which would require attention that they felt would not leave them able to focus fully on Star Wars. We love Star Wars. There are only so many hours in the day, and we felt we could not do justice to both Star Wars and our Netflix projects. So we are regretfully stepping away. David Benioff & DB Weiss In response to the news Kathleen Kennedy has left the door open for their return in the future, but despite this apparent setback there is no shortage of other Star Wars projects in the works; with Kevin Feige becoming involved recently and the Rian Johnson trilogy not completely off the cards (yet). There are also TV projects in the works, such as the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, Cassian Andor series, and of course The Mandalorian which launches with Disney+ on 12 November, and video game Jedi: Fallen Order also releasing in November.
  6. Disney CEO Bob Iger has confirmed that the Star Wars film scheduled for release in 2022 will be from the showrunners and creators of Game of Thrones. David Benioff and DB Weiss's TV adaptation of George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series is currently drawing to a close, and the pair are apparently already hard at work on their first foray into Star Wars. We did a deal with David Benioff and Dan Weiss, who are famous for 'Game of Thrones' and the next movie that we release will be theirs, and we’re not saying anything more about that. Bob Iger This announcement has come as a surprise to many who were expecting the next film to be from Rian Johnson, and has cast new doubt on the status of the Star Wars: The Last Jedi director's new trilogy, although Kathleen Kennedy stated last month that Benioff and Weiss were working closely with Johnson to ensure continuity between their respective projects. It was announced back in 2018 that Benioff and Weiss would be making their mark on Star Wars, although at the time it was unclear how many films the two were working on. This is still unclear, as Iger has only confirmed that the 2022 movie will be theirs although two more Star Wars movies are scheduled for 2024 and 2026. Although we have a large gap between Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and 2022, Disney will be plugging the gap with their Disney Plus exclusive shows The Mandalorian and another series following Rogue One's Cassian Andor. We look forward to hearing more news soon.
  7. Disney have revealed a schedule which pinpoints the movie release dates across their vast empire of brands, including Star Wars. Three Star Wars movies have been assigned release dates, but no further information accompanies the untitled movies. The movies are set for release in 2022, 2024, and 2026, which is a distinctive enough pattern that it isn't too much of a stretch to speculate that these are the Rian Johnson Star Wars trilogy that was announced back in 2017. See also: Star Wars Movie Release Schedule Rian Johnson's last foray into Star Wars was the divisive second episode of the sequel trilogy, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and it is widely expected that his trilogy will pick up on some of the unresolved threads from that film. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will release this December, leaving us with a three-year gap before the next Star Wars film hits the big screen.
